What is Trauma-Informed Care?
Trauma-Informed Care is an evidence and strengths-based approach that utilizes the understanding of stress, trauma, and resilience as a part of our human experience to skillfully inform how we lead our personal and professional lives.
Trauma-Informed Leadership focuses on integrating key principles, strategies, and skills to actively applying to your sphere of influence.
This approach has a rich history and has been traditionally held in the health and human services industry but it is not meant to exclusively live there.
When applied, Trauma-Informed Leadership cultivates a trusting work environment leading to greater employee engagement and satisfaction, reducing turnover costs while simultaneously improving client experiences and outcomes.
Hi, I’m Katie Kurtz
I am a subject-matter expert on trauma-informed leadership.
I was trained by SAMHSA early on in my social work career as trauma-informed care as it was being formalized and gaining popularity.
I specialize in stewarding this approach by honoring its origins while ushering it into a future that focuses on integrative methods for leaders who want to enhance social impact and create sustainable cultures of care.
I realized over the years that the existing model does a great job of explaining what the approach is but is not so great at showing us how.
It’s hyperclinical interpretation also makes it unapproachable and confusing for other professions to adopt it when it is so clearly needed in their fields.
I developed a proven resilience roadmap that focuses on integrative skill development adaptable for any person or company.
I offer training, consultation, and employee assistance programming to equip people and companies who care with this comprehensive, human-centered approach.
Free AWARE Guide
One of the most important things we can do when it comes to understanding trauma and its impact is to create shared language and understanding.
The AWARE Guide is a free resource to introduce you to the Trauma Competency Framework™. This guide is designed to create shared language and introduce you to this tiered approach so you can determine the best level of trauma competency for you and your scope of practice.
Leaders who prioritize workplace resilience set a powerful precedent
Trauma-Informed Leadership fosters a culture of openness and trust that encourages employees to safely seek support when needed.
A common misconception about Trauma-Informed Leadership is that companies must address trauma directly.
This misunderstanding deters leaders from embracing these practices when in reality, the goal is to create a resilient environment, not to assume responsibility for trauma.
This journey calls for bravery and authenticity, as well as a commitment to upholding principles of empathy and integrity.
I offer a variety of services to help you build a resilience roadmap
